Synthetic cannabinoids are sometimes sprayed onto dried herbs or mixed into vape liquids. These added drugs can cause severe anxiety, paranoia, a racing heart, hallucinations, and seizures. Some reactions can be life-threatening, according to the CDC. If those ingredients aren’t disclosed, you have no reliable way to know what you’re taking or how much.

Hidden cannabinoids can also put you at risk of failing a drug test. A product containing enough undisclosed THC can cause a positive THC result, even if you believed you were using only herbs. Other synthetic cannabinoids can show up on tests designed to detect them. Operation Supplement Safety specifically warns about this risk with adulterated blue lotus products.

Not every cannabinoid shows up on every test. Many synthetic cannabinoids are missed by routine THC tests, so a negative result does not mean a product is safe. The American College of Medical Toxicology explains that standard THC tests are not designed to detect these substances.
